The Longest Night

Thursday, June 21, 2012

The winter solstice is the solstice that occurs in winter. It is the time at which the Sun is appearing at noon at its lowest altitude above the horizon. In the Southern Hemisphere [ahem… where I live] this is the Northern solstice, the time at which the Sun is at its northernmost point in the sky, which usually occurs on June 20 to 21 each year [ahem… them would be today]

So I know its quite a cold day out, but if you have a minute, go outside and enjoy the shortest day of the year, its onward and sunward from here on!

Happiness :)

Monday Music Music Moments: Mount Kimbie

Monday, June 18, 2012

Today I love Mount Kimbie's "Before I move off" - just for today I want to rename it, "Before I move on". I think it was E.E Cummings that said "It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are". Lately I have been feeling like there is this battle between the me from back then and the me from right now.

Holding onto a way of life because I feel I have to. Like I can't grow up. I've always been the kind of person who has nurtured and often enabled the child in my heart. And while I still do that, I have also come to realise that it is a little relieving to sometimes ignore that nagging little voice of immaturity and put away the childish things, even if its only for a short while.

Growing up is not a bad thing.

3 cheers for Monday -- ok I know that's taking it too far :)

A Very Pantone Breakfast

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Have you heard of Emile Griottes? He has an amazing food blog called Griottes - every time I visit his site my mouth waters and my eyes bulge and my tummy rumbles. Lately I have been so busy failing at the work life balance thing, that I haven't had time to do my usual blog stalking. So imagine my shock and awe when i visited Emile's blog and saw these amazing Pantone inspired tarts?

I won't lie, normally i scoff at all of the commercialism surrounding the Pantone brand, but these are absolutely divine. And look absolutely delish.

Hope you are all having a stellar Wednesday!

Lazy Sunday's + Winter Sun

Sunday, June 03, 2012

Initially I was aiming at doing a "My Weekend in Pictures" post, but the truth is, my weekend was blissfully unproductive. Sunday was a glorious day in Cape Town, the sun was shining as if winter had already passed.

I baked a Caramelised Onion & Blue Cheese Tart and went to lay in the garden. I have decided to re-read Love in the Time of Cholera. Its the kind of mood I'm in \.

I hope you all had divine weekends and that the week ahead filled with much happiness!

Traditional Japanese Art Meets French Street Art: Magical Mash ups

Friday, June 01, 2012

French artist Mademoiselle Maurice has taken the traditional Japanese art of paper folding and given it a modern twist with a street art installation in Paris.

In her street art installation called ‘Rainbows’, she took hundreds of brightly colored origamis and glued them on walls throughout the city—creating a temporal street installation of color against granite walls.

For more images of the installation Please visit Mademoiselle Maurice's site

Just a Minute in May...

Reading - Chuck Klosterman IV: A Decade of Curious People and Dangerous Ideas by Chuck Klosterman
Listening - to Mount Eerie’s Clear Moon, on repeat, all day long…
Buying - new make-up from MAC. More on this later
Loving - everything about Autumn in Cape Town, the chill in the air, the change of the leaves, the happiness in my heart. It’s a bit of a dream right now.
Wanting - a new flat, it’s so very hard to find. If May was a nugget of perfection, it’s only flaw would be my ongoing search for a new home.
Remembering - an Autumn in Japan a life time ago
Listing - the 30 things to do before I am 30

A pinch & a punch for the first of the month
