FIRST BIRTHDAYS x AMAZING CAKES x HIP HIP HOORAY x BOOKS ARE GREAT GIFTS

Monday, April 28, 2014

When I read this post on the Raising Men blog I clearly remember feeling seriously excited about Sophie’s first birthday. If you scroll down to the comments you’ll see I even commented! What ever was I thinking? Children’s parties are a not for the faint hearted. As I write this I am still nursing a pounding headache that started when the last guest left last night (ahem the invite said 2-4pm).

What better way to say a proper heartfelt farewell to summer (its FINALLY feeling like autumn in the Cape) than with some pretty pink drinks? I’m always on the hunt for yummy, but easy to make drinks for dinner parties & braai’s. This one has all the right notes: sweet, salty and tart. Using the Original Cocktails pre-mixed Margarita's means it literally takes about 3 minutes to whip up a batch of these.

The folks over at Original Cocktails have generously given me a hamper of cocktails to give away! To stand a chance to win, simply
  1. Follow me on twitter
  2. Follow Original Cocktails on twitter

WINTER'S COMING & I NEED BOOTS

Thursday, April 17, 2014

THE WINTER BOOTS ROUND UP thanks spree.co.za for stocking these well priced beauties

one // two // three // four // five // six

If you live in Cape Town, you probably haven't reapplied that winter is coming. Who can blame you, we've had one revoltingly beautiful day after another since November. I myself, do not have enough winter friendly shoes. So I pine, I pine daily and I usually pine for all the ones I can't afford. So imagine my delighted surprise when I had a look spree.co.za only to find the most darling range of boots - all very much in my price range.

#1, #4 & #5 are my absolute must have right away picks, the rest will be in my wish basket to purchase some time before July.

LIFE LATELY ACCORDING TO MY IPHONE #005

Monday, April 14, 2014

Left to right from the top left corner:

1// Sophie's first selfie - is this a technology milestone?
2// bacon and egg salads because I've waved good bye to carbs in the hope of shrining my lady lumps
3// Parklife with my two grans Wilma & Winne
4// Wynberg Park is like a forgotten gem, I sued to go so often as a child and then it went through a phase of being bit of a stoner hang out & now, I'm happy to report it has been reclaimed as a wonderful family picnic spot
5// Sunset on Camps Bay beach, just another kak day in Cape Town amiright?
6// Catepillar eyebrows in desperate need of threading! If you know someone (not Rashmi) please share contact details!
7// Sophie & mama deep in cuddle land, basic.
8// Looking down... Its so rare that I'm wearing something other than tights and a tee.

SUNSET PICNICS, GRANDPARENTS & MAKING TIME

Sunday, April 13, 2014

Regan has the worst work job/hobby combination ever.

By day he’s an art director at one of the bigger Cape Town agencies and by night (not every night, but maybe one of two nights a months) he’s a dj. Naturally I’m often agitated because we’re not SPENDING TIME. Isn’t that one of the more bizarre human adages? In order to spend time you need to have it, and who really has time? Time isn’t something we can’t touch or own or see, it moves independently of us, whether we are ready for it to move or not, if anything, time spends us.

FRIDAY FINDS: LOOKING FORWARD TO AUTUMN

Friday, April 11, 2014

Autumn is here (although you wouldn't know that if you are in Cape Town because it's still hot as hell) and I am so in love with the new Naartjie Kids Autumn range! When they announced the new range was live on their site yesterday I immediately clicked away because Sophie & I love Naartjie, their clothes are amazing quality and the designs are trendy but still whimsical and child like. Here are our picks for Sophie's autumn wardrobe:

10 THINGS I LEARNED IN MY FIRST YEAR AS A MOTHER

Wednesday, April 09, 2014

In just under a weeks time Sophie is turning one. I can’t actually believe it. I know that’s what everyone says, but its true. If I close my eyes and think back to the day she was born it felt like it was just yesterday. Nothing makes you aware of your own mortality more than becoming a parent. Time is now my greatest gift and I promise you, I cherish it. I hold it so close to my heart and I just savor every second, every poo filled nappy or screaming fit, every cuddle and every kiss, I allow these moments to fill my heart because I know they are fleeting.

Like most moms I wish Sophie could stay little forever. Obviously. In her diminutive state she has taught me so much about myself, about my relationship with Regan and about what it means to parent. Raising a human is serious business. It takes bravery and strength and a lot of patience. What I have learned about myself this past year could fit into a book, but who has time for that? Here’s the cheat sheet:

JUST A MINUTE IN MARCH

Tuesday, April 08, 2014

Loving: The not so subtle change of season, waking up in the morning and feeling that perfect chill in the air is pure magic. Hello autumn! I’ve missed you so!
Buying: Absolutely nothing, since starting my Minimal Me project I have put a temporary ban on shopping. Also, Adeline sent my long lost stash of vintage dresses so I kind of feel like I went shopping for a whole new wardrobe already.
Eating: No carb or sugar! It’s been really difficult. I mean those cravings for thickly buttered bread are no joke. But I’m soldiering on. Had a few slip ups but I am proud to report each time I’ve gingerly gotten back on the horse.
Watching: Rather re-watching last season’s Game of Thrones, I realise I’ve completely forgotten most of what happened. Guys I am so excited about the new season!! Cannot wait!
Reading: Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. Loved it so much! A nice bit of romantic escapism.

It’s through this hoarding of information that I have FINALLY had a look at Zana Products’ new range. WOW! I am so in love!
