As cheesy as it sounds, adopting an attitude of gratitude has really helped me lead a more mindful, intentional life this month. Just stopping to smell the roses and taking pleasure in every moment, however big or small has left me feeling truly appreciative of the life I have. We exist in such a comparative society, sharing so much of ourselves online, its so easy to fall into the “she has a better life than me” trap.

I sat down with a cup of tea and thought about the month we’ve had and there are 8 things I am truly grateful for:

1] Regan was on leave for the whole of January. Today is his first day back in the office and I miss him SO much. Having home was so great because he works all the time, he’s often only home at 7pm most days. Spending this time with him has been so great because we have actually had time to have conversations, conversations that don’t revolve around our kids, we’ve cooked together, he’s spent so much time with Gracie, we’ve had the “us” time I have been craving for so long.

2] It’s such a no brainer, but really Gracie is such a blessing in our lives. I can’t tell you how long I have wanted another child and being blessed with such an adorable, sweet little angel has been so wonderful. She is getting so strong, she’s hardly a bobble head now. And her little gurgles and giggles just light up my whole life. She looks more and more like me every day and I just love it. Sophie is the splitting image of my mom so I am taking a moment to enjoy the fact that Gracie looks more like me.

3] This January was the first January in the history of Januaries that Regan and I were not disgustingly broke. We actually managed all the way to pay day without touching the “end of the month Salticrax”!

4] Sophie has mellowed out a bit. I have come to terms with the fact that we are a long way off from leading a tantrum free life, but gosh we came so close this month. The few tantrums we had were pretty epic, but I think she’s finally processed that her sisters arrival doesn’t mean a change in the love we shower her with. Hooray for that!

5] Remember when I posted my Dear You letter? One of the things I mentioned was wanting to spend more time with friends and this month has been a good month for that. We are so lucky to have so many people in lives that love us and that we love. That’s pretty special.

6] My diet is going quite well and I am so proud of myself for sticking with it and persevering through the cheat meals and getting back on track. Leading a healthier life is the main focus of our family this year.

7] The smattering of rain we had was music to my soul. I know that it was nowhere near enough to make a difference to our dam levels but flip, when I heard that rainfall, I ran through the house opening all the windows. It was the best sound ever.

8] I managed to read one book this month. I love to read and I really haven’t found much time for since Sophie was born. Sitting down with a good book feels like the ultimate luxury when you also haven’t showered in 2 days and need to make supper and need to settle a screaming baby.

If you sat down and thought about it, what are some of the moments you would be grateful for?
