“Regan! Babe! Babe! Your alarm’s going off!! Babe wake up! Put off your alarm! Jeeeezuz I’m not your mom. This is so ridiculous. WAKE THE F#^CK UP!!”
“Guys look how gorgeous daddy is. Isn’t he such a dish. Show us your muscles! Give us a kiss babe!”

“Babe take Gracie for a minute. I forgot to brush my teeth and Sally’s going to be here soon”

“Babe please let me know what you feel like eating for supper. I can’t be the only person to decide on this. It’s not fair. Babe? Did you hear me?”

“Ok bye I love you. Have a great day. Don’t forget your lunch”

Text messages

“How’s your day going. I’m frantic”

“I love you”

“Leaving the office now. Hope you’re not late”

“DADDY’S HOME!!!!!”

“Hi my love, please take Grace. The foods burning.”

“Babe! Put Grace in the pram. I need you to get Soph out of the bath. God she’s been in there for almost an hour.”

“Babe did you remember to stop at the shop for formula?”

“Babe can you go to the pharmacy before you pull the car in? I need mybulen.”

“Ok say night to daddy and then go have a wee. I’m waiting for you in the room”

“BABE! Send Soph to bed please”

“Oh my gosh I’m so exhausted. Thank God bedtime was a breeze for once. Will you wash the dishes? I’m going to have a bath”

“Babe are you making tea?”

“Flip I’m exhausted. I think I’m just going to jump into bed. I love you moo. Don’t stay up too late.”

He comes to bed quietly. Kisses me goodnight and then goes to sleep.

This is our constant. This life of me and him and our girls. We move through our days without stopping to cherish the fact that we’ve found each other. We’re not unique, in fact I’m sure many will read this and nod their heads. I read so much. And I often find myself reading marriage advice. I don’t feel like I need it but I often worry that we’re not in love enough. Or that our lives are too boring. I have never loved any man the way I love him and even though we fight and scream and sometimes neglect each other, I will never stop wanting to be with him. I will never stop trying to make us happier.

When ever I speak to younger people I always say that the best thing about finding the love of your life is that you finally realize that this love will be the easiest you ever feel. There will be no hesitation.  No questions. It’s easy to love Regan. It’s easy because when I look at him I don’t see a passionate and stormy romance. I don’t see someone I need to impress. I don’t see someone I need to compete with. When I look at him, all I see is Home.

  1. Thank you for sharing your story! It's good to take the time to reflect on actually being a 'couple' (not just parents ) and that you showed so beautifully in this post. Well, let's talk about boring marriages / I think those are the best. I also sometimes feel gosh this is so predictable and cosy - but I love it too. A comedian once said - you don't want too much drama in your marriage you want the boring. Excellent post

I love comments!
